No more Front-end process?
Japanese Full IME with Ajax

If people who want to write Japanese didn't realize the new technology that enable transforming into Japanese characters without installing any software on own PC, it might be "Mottainai".

To be honest, I'm quite shocked with this deliverable that is created by Mr.Taku. (his own blog in Japanese) Japanese charactor input system, which is used to be called as "Front-end process", becomes a "Back-end process" with Ajax!
I knew Ajax is a sort of consolidation of ordinary technologies. It was supposed to be a great help to integrate web service like g-mail that works enough as if it's an e-mail application because there is no frustration waiting to refresh the window, which is normal with conventional web services.

To me, that was the only reason why I find Ajax is so promising. However the deliverable "Japanese Full IME with Ajax" is quite different. While gmail delivers less frustration with Ajax, "Japanese Full IME with Ajax" delivers additional service that had to be processed in local PC.

Using this tech, people can transform roman letters into Japanese letters as Japanese people do with Japanese supported PC. People no longer need any additional software than Japanese fonts which is normally installed from the beginning nowadays, in order to type Japanese letters. So it enable us to type Japanese e-mail wherever any PC is.

Since Japanese character is not the only 2 byte characters, it may adopt to any other languages like Greek or Russian that are using 2 byte characters.

Like this deliverable, Ajax can eliminate many functionalities from local PC. So it seems that we would not have to own high feature PC in the future. Hardware producer would have a hardship...

I just wish gmail would have this functionality.
