Yesterday I went to
Bimhuis, a fresh POI in Amsterdam. In spite of the
strange looking of the exterior, I found it's a quite good live house.
Now it became one of my favorite place. You check it out!
It's in a quiet area almost behind the central station of Amsterdam. Bimhuis is a part of the building of
Het muziekgebouw aan 't IJ that is next to
PTA, Passenger Terminal Amsterdam. The livehall faces to the city of Amsterdam, and it has a big window behind the stage. So the audience can see passing trains and the science museum
NEMO, which is brightly lit at night. The broad scenary of night townscape can be a good essense to attract the atmospher of stage.
The round stage is surrounded by the audiences seats, so every audiences can see the performance very clearly. And the sound is very nice. It's supposed to be designed in acoustic engineering. The interior walls with sound insulator should be one of the tricks to create good sound.
The audience goes to a small bar next to the livehall, to have some drink during pause period. Since the area is not that big for all the audience, most of them drink and smoke in upright stance. If there is some stand tables, that would help audiences to be confertable.
Most part of the building is not yet completed though, it enticed me to go there again to see a large scale concert in the main hall, because the building name suggest me that would be the center of big events. Although I don't go to the hall, just walking down the surroundings on Spring or Summer would be interesting.
The only concern here is the way to get there.
It's only 10 minutes walk from the central station though it's too quiet to walk at night. There is none of the other building in between, almost nobody walk down there, so it seems a best spot for robbery. So I recommend to go there by car unless the area gets secured by the police.
Since the parking lot is not yet completed, we need to park in the part under PTA. When the part under Het muziekgebouw is completed easy access to get to Bimhuis is expected, but now we need about 10 minusts walk from the parking to the livehall.
